i just got done a-practicing.. i guess im doing ok on tbone. it doesnt feel like im making progress, but when i pick up the horn, i warm up with my scales then do lip slurs and tonguing and it surprises me how much i have progressed since around last year this time.
Actually yeah, that makes sense. Last year at this time I hadn't played since graduation, and I'm pretty sure this was the last day of school last year, or close to it. Well I've played a lot this year. I should reminisce....
May 05 - (can't remember! haha) probably concert band performance, commencement (sucked!)
June 05 - first practices with Mrs J
July - OVAC All-Star Band (funnnnn stuffff)
August 05 - band camp
August - started with Toronto Community Band (every thursday, there's a practice)
August - December 05 -- LOOOOONG football season
concert band in november/december
january 06 - start practices for "How to Succeed"
(i forgot parades for christmas in december/january)
february - i think this is when i joined Gem City Brass, and started taking lessons from John Neurohr (who is a godly trombonist)
march (17,18,19) - "How to Succeed" performances, and concert band practice
april - more toronto and GCB, plus concert band practices/performance.
may - toronto Comm band mothers' day performance and GCB @ JCC graduation ceremonies (and i actually started practicing)
i could go on, and say what i'm GOING to do but i havent done them yet, so i can't really list them as "accomplishments".
Looking back on all this it really doesnt add up to all that much. I mean sure, it's all important, but you look at any other person and they've done more. THere's always going to be that one person (or in my case, many people) who have just htat much more (or a lot more) than you do.
Wise words paraphrased from Bill Harms, yeah the car guy. He's in GCB. Funny dude.
